Location Sharing Policy

Your location is off until you turn it on, and you always choose who sees it and for how long.

Off by default

A new account shares nothing. Trip dates are not location: they show when you plan to be on the island, never where you are.

When you turn it on, you choose who sees it (all your friends, friends you pick, or one crew), for how long (1 hour, until 06:00 island time, 8 hours, or until you turn it off) and how precise. A timed share stops by itself at the end of the time. A share until you turn it off has no end time: it stays on until you stop it, or until 14 days pass without a new position (you have not opened KAA), when it stops by itself and we tell you. Once a week, during the day on the island's clock, we remind you that it is still on, with one tap to stop it. Any share stops when you leave the island, and we tell you; Stop sharing stops it at once.

When you share with one crew, only the members of that crew see your location, for as long as you chose. The share ends if you leave the crew, are removed from it, or the crew is deleted.

While you share, a mark next to the bell shows on every screen, and it opens the same controls.

Only while the app is open

KAA reads your location only while the app is open. It never uses your location in the background and never asks for "Always" access. While a share is on and the app is open, your position is sent after you move about 50 meters, or every 3 minutes if you stay in one place. Friends see when your point was last updated. This is the same for a share until you turn it off: your position is sent only while KAA is open, never in the background. If no update arrives for 10 minutes while your share is still on (the app is closed, or the phone gives no position), friends see "Location paused" with the time of the last update. When you open the app again during the share, sharing resumes by itself.

Leaving the island

Sharing is for the island. If a position we receive during a share is outside the island (its area and about 3 km around it), the share ends at once and we delete the point. We tell only you. Your friends are not told; they simply no longer see you. A share you started away from the island is not ended this way; it runs to the time you chose, or until you turn it off.

Who never sees it

Our staff never see anyone's live location. Sharing earns no points or rewards.

Freshness

A shared point is shown only while it is fresh. After 120 minutes without an update it disappears from the map.

Precision

You choose exact (the pin itself), street (about 90 m) or area (about 350 m). Approximate points are coarsened on the server.

What we store

We keep only your latest shared point, not a history of where you have been. When you stop sharing, we delete that point immediately. When the time you chose ends, nobody sees it from that moment and we delete it within 15 minutes. When you leave the island during a share, we delete it at once. A share until you turn it off keeps only that latest point until you stop it; others stop seeing it after 120 minutes without an update.

Nearest shop and pharmacy

On the Island tab, "nearest" reads your phone's position once and sorts the list on your phone. That position is not sent to us and nothing about it is stored. If location is off, the list is sorted from the center of the island.

Where am I, in the Emergency screen

When you tap Show where I am, your phone reads its position once and shows it to you as coordinates, with the nearest named place, so you can read it to a dispatcher. This happens on your phone only. The position is not sent to KAA or to anyone else, it is not saved, and it is forgotten when you close the screen. It is not location sharing: your friends see nothing and our staff see nothing. If location is off, the call buttons still work.

The spot of a place you add

When you add a place and tap "I am there now", your position is read once and saved as that place's pin. It goes to our team with the suggestion and becomes the place's point on the map if approved. It is not saved as your location and is never shown as where you are.

Blocking

A member you block never sees your location, whatever audience you chose.

Villa parties

A party's exact address is a different thing: it is shown only to members confirmed as going. See the Villa Party and Event Host Terms.

Be careful

Only share with people you trust, and think twice before sharing where you sleep.
