Messaging and Notifications Policy

Version:

We contact you only about your account and things you took part in. We do not send marketing email.

Emails we send

Only when they apply, and you cannot turn them off while you have an account: a link to confirm your email when you sign up, a sign up code when email codes are switched on, an email when your request to join is approved or declined, the password reset links you ask for, a notice when your password is changed, and an email when our team warns you, suspends your account or closes it. Security notices also appear in the app.

Sometimes our team writes to you directly: a service message to all members, to the members of one island or to people waiting for approval, about your account or the community itself (an outage, a change to the rules or to a policy, a change to how the app works), or a personal email from someone on our team about your account or your request to join. These are not marketing, they are written in your language, and you cannot turn them off while you have an account. Each service message says so in its small print.

Notifications you control

Notifications appear under the bell at the top of every main screen, in the language you use KAA in. In the iOS app they also arrive as push notifications, but only if you allow them when the app asks; you can turn them off again in the iPhone's Settings.

We notify you when:

In Settings, Notifications (Profile, then the gear), you can turn off each of these kinds; the choice applies to the app and to push. The same page has switches for trip updates, replies to your tips, new levels and friends arriving on the island, for notifications we do not send yet. Account and security notices are always shown.

A notification keeps what it is about: its kind, the member or the event or place it concerns, and when you read it. It is deleted with your account, and every notification about a member is deleted when that member deletes their account.

Marketing

We do not send marketing email.

Phishing

We will never ask for your password by email.
